Learning Prayers by Heart
Help your child to memorize the Our Father (Lord's Prayer) and Hail Mary. You can find the words to each below. Here are some tips:
- Practice when you are driving in the car together (on the way to/from church or elsewhere).
- Memorize in lines and chunks. Say a line out loud and have your child echo it. After a while, move to longer chunks.
- Find a song that puts the prayer to music that they like.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
The Hail Mary
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
